More Sillies

On Sunday, our family went for a bike ride.  For once, we weren't in a big rush, so took time to stop and go on little walks on the side.  Once, Ruby was complaining about wanting to go home.  David told her that she is home all the time during the rest of the week.  No, she told him indignantly, we go to Wal-Mart!

So, on our weekly Wal-Mart trip this week, I had just put a bunch of chips in our cart..or maybe a block of cheese...okay, I don't remember exactly when =O, and Ruby, noticing that a party must be coming on was asking me about it.  I told her that we were going to party at Aunt Tracy's for Thanksgiving.  She asked me if we were going to have a lot of yummy food.  I told her that we were.  She got rather excited.  And then asked if she could have "celery".  What?  I didn't even know she likes celery!  Plus, is "celery" really a party food?  =P  Anyhow, she then let me know that she wants 3 pieces of celery.  So, back to my "yummy salad" eater.  How am I supposed to get this yummy-salad-celery eater to gain any weight?!?!?  ;P

Oh, and how crazy is it that while watching my kiddos play "monkey" on Monday morning I got all sentimental and teary-eyed?  They are just great, my kids are.  I love 'em.

Anyhow, I was feeling a bit sick near the end of our shopping trip, and was VERY happy to see David when he arrived to meet up with us in the check-out lane.  Anyhow, yeah.  I got SICK later that evening.  You know...I never regret taking the time to clean the toilets when I have to get up close and personal with them, you know?  One reason to always have clean toilets!  I digress.  =P  Yeah, it was just lovely.  Or not.  Didn't get much sleep on Monday night, as I camped out on the bathroom floor (literally) complete with sleeping bags and pillows.  Thanks, Buddy.  =)  So, on Tuesday, I pretty much laid around on the couch.  I found I can sleep through lots of things - incessant talking about penguins, running, screaming, house-being-torn-aparting...yeah.  When I woke up, Isaac was wearing Jadelyn's little brown dress/shirt thing paired with Ruby's light blue skirt/shorts.  Ruby was wearing a Pull-up and some of Jadelyn's clothes.  And Jadelyn was wearing some of her own clothes.  What a sight!  They had packed up bags and gone to the zoo, I'm told.  ;)

Ruby and Isaac had been playing down in the basement yesterday when Isaac came up to ask if he could bring a Bible to the basement.  You see, he and Ruby had been pretending, he told me.  She told him she really liked how his face looked, and why did it look like that?  He told her that he had been learning about Jesus.  She told him that she wanted to learn about Jesus, too.  So he had been teaching her and wanted to give her a Bible as a present.  I told him I didn't really want a Bible down in the dirty basement, so he wrapped up a hymnal instead.  ;)  Love that kid.

Then, later, Ruby was practicing playing the few notes of "Jesus Loves Me" that she remembers on the piano, and crazy Isaac joined her to sing.  Giggles soon followed.  It'll never get old to listen to my silly gigglers.  Then it got real crazy when Isaac had a burp in the midst of his singing...so he went right from singing to burping to "excuse-meing".  Cracked 'em both up.  Loons.

Today, Ruby was telling me that she did a "face plant" in the basement, motioning how she hit her face.  Only, she said, she didn't hit her face.  And then she got right back up.  Ha.

That's all...I just didn't write any of this down, so knew I needed to blog it quick!  =O

And now that I'm feeling SLIGHTLY more human, I should get this place straightened up so we can work on getting ready to "par-tay" tomorrow.

Life Stories

One day, David was walking by outside the kid’s bedroom, when he heard Isaac exclaim, "amazing!" Then, as soon as he got inside, Isaac was begging him to come back and see his "gorgeous [train] tracks!" Gotta love I-see’s enthusiasm! ;)

Ruby is feeling better, after a few days of being sick. She was quite happy about feeling better, as evidenced by the first words I heard her say when she got up on Wednesday morning, "I didn’t throw up at all!!!" Good thing. That kid continues to be so bloomin’ skinny, that lately we’ve been a bit concerned off and on. David has told me before that when he looks at her toothpick legs, he’s just proud that she can even walk! =O

One morning the kids begged David to fix their twisted-up slinkies before he left for work. As he was working on it, Ruby told him, "you’re the slinky man". David responded, "way to butter me up". I was laughing about the whole conversation when Ruby interjected, "it’s true! He IS the slinky man!" Isaac then said something that I didn’t catch. But apparently David did. "Slinky Man doesn’t do criticism", he told Isaac. Then, for some reason, David said something about "Mom’s a sweet pea". "So are you", Ruby said, "you’re supposed to be at work, but you’re fixing our slinkies". And then Jadelyn burst into the conversation, "my mouth’s broken!" said with a hanger in her mouth. Just a random conversation from the Dickerson household. =O

It was "wash sheets day", and I needed Ruby’s soft blanket in the washer. She came over, threw it in, and then told me, "I have to get away, or I might get sick" since it smells bad when it’s wet. ;)

Ruby was eating Jello, that special "I’m sick" treat, while looking longingly at Jadelyn’s tossed salad, and dreaming about the day she could eat "yummy salad". Apparently she didn’t inherit my sweet tooth! Ha.

One night while tucking the kids into bed, Ruby lifted my face up because, "I want to see your pretty face". Aww. Then she said, "I have a pretty face, too." I asked her how she knew that. "Because you tell me", she replied. =)

Ruby had to tell me about a "bad dream" she had the other night. She dreamed that David was a horse. And she was trying to feed him. And then I think she got tangled up in the fence, and Aunt Aliya helped her get out. And Aunt Aliya wanted to go lay down in the pasture. And the horse bit Ruby and put her in the pasture, and then out, and then back in, and then out again. And then David the horse wiped the "waucamole" off his face. Well, she told me, "I’m not sure it was waucamole", but it was green, and she was like, "waucamole is green!" Oh, the nightmares…;)

I went to get my blood drawn at the hospital on Thursday with all 3 kids in tow. Last time I went, I only had Ruby. Well, we were registering at the registration desk place, when Ruby started whispering some secret to Jadelyn and then to Isaac. I overheard her telling them that the lady who was helping us was "Ms. Brenda". I asked her how she remembered that. Because it’s the name of Daddy’s boss (who she’s never met, I might add), I was told. That kid is just INCREDIBLE with names! Today she was telling Isaac and Jadelyn about Aunt Hope (who she saw at Grandma Nancy’s funeral) and Aunt Joy (who she’s never met). She had all her facts straight. Incredible. Maybe she didn’t inherit my sweet tooth, but she certainly got ALL my social skills – because I’m lacking pretty much ALL of my own! =O Just fascinates me. Anyways…then, I was getting my blood drawn and all 3 kids were smilingly (like big ‘ole smiles) watching. They must not have inherited my wimpy-easy-to-get-sick-when-blood-or-vomit-is-present gene. And the lady drawing my blood, who did REALLY well last time, was so distracted by their smiling faces that I ended up a little bruised this time. Oh, well. At least the kids enjoyed the field trip to the hospital! =P

Jadelyn went poop. Good to know, right? And then went on to describe the shape of it by using her finger. Lovely. Then, she said, "funny poop". Oh, man…that kid is just random. And strange. And I love her to pieces!

David was asking Ruby the other day something about if she wanted something with cheese on it for supper. "I’m trying to stay away from the cheese stuff", she told him. So…she’s staying away from cheese, and Isaac’s back on pretty much trying to avoid sugar, though not as much as he tried to avoid it last time. How are they ever going to gain weight on "yummy salad"?!?!?!?!

I’ll let this quote speak for itself. It just cracks me up. "It’s amazing how we get food on our foreheads when we’re just trying to get it in our mouths" – deep-in-thought-Ruby. HA!!!!! =D

The other night at supper, the kids were being a bit…ahem…rambunctious. David suggested that they "play human". The kids were listening intently as he told them how the game would go. Pretending that they were people, you know. Behavior dramatically improved. (My behavior MIGHT have gotten worse if I started snickering, but you know, not sure I did…I didn’t write THAT down. ;P) Later, after supper, Ruby asked David, "why aren’t we playing human?" Who knew that was SUCH a good game?!?! =)

Jadelyn has been waking up from naptime significantly before the other two lately. On Friday, she came upstairs where I was folding laundry and went about quietly playing that she was a turtle in her "turtle box" (aka "laundry basket"). As soon as Ruby and Isaac got up, she was downstairs, telling them excitedly about the "turtle box" and asking them if they wanted to come play. Ruby came shyly up the stairs, sucking her thumb (HOW DO WE BREAK THE CHILD OF THE HABIT!?!?! =O), like she didn’t really WANT to play in a "turtle box", but she was coming because Jadelyn asked her to. Right. ;) Anyways, soon after that, I had one turtle in the laundry basket "turtle box" and one in the beanbag "turtle box". I think I like that game….it’s even quieter than "playing human"! =)

The kids have been coloring like crazy lately. Namely because they want to "use up" the markers and crayons. Now, I certainly think they will use up the markers…but they have so many bloomin’ crayons that people gave them when Ruby was in her cast that I don’t think it’s possible to EVER use ‘em up. EVER. ;) Unless, of course, we melted ‘em all down and made a candle. Or 20. Or something. Anyways, Isaac’s been the only one who actually FINISHES a picture. He colored two pictures of unicorns. Which he refers to as "dinocorns". Love that kid. He also refers to his "art set" as a "sun set". Ha.

I overheard Isaac talking to his sisters back in his bedroom the other day. I’m not sure what he was talking about, but whatever it was "just takes a MAN’S muscle", he told them. ;) Gotta love when they use lines straight out of "Your Story Hour" stories. ;)

Jadelyn was complaining "I can’t see it!" the other day, as she so often does. "Use your eyes", David told her. And there was silence. Why didn’t I think of that one before? =O

During bedtime prayers, Jadelyn was praying along when she paused, "let me tink…."….. ….. ….. and then she continued with thanking Jesus that her light isn’t broken off. ;)

During children’s story at church on Sabbath, the kids were asked what they were thankful for. "Daddy!" Ruby said. And then Jadelyn started talking. "Aww", I thought, "this is when she says she’s thankful for Mommy." Nope. "For Gam. And Pucka. And Grandma, and Grandpa. And Grandpa Link is sad ‘cause of Grandma Nancy". And that was all the input any of the kids up at children’s story had. Oh…and earlier in the story, Jadelyn interrupted to let everyone know that Pucka is coming soon. She sure loves her Pucka! Even if he has a beard.

Ruby was telling me that she was having still more problems with her belly last night…that it was feeling "tight". Jadelyn then piped up, "I was having some problems with my belly ‘cause it’s not on my ears". Right. I have that same problem! Random Lynnie…;)

And that’s all I have written down! Adios!!!!!

Whallop of Stuff

Oh, my...I've gotten behind again.  And there were so many things I was going to write about, but yeah.  Didn't.  Same 'ole, same 'ole.  =P

The other day, Ruby called her hangnails "skin hangs".  Ha!

Jadelyn earned a spanking (probably for hitting), and she was telling David, "I can give the hardest spanking by myself".  She then proceeded to "spank" herself, followed by "uh!" to convince us of the severity of her self-spanking.  That kid is just funny.

I have written down something about Ruby and underwear.  Yeah.  Not sure what that was about.  I think it was that she was putting her arms through the leg holes.  Apparently I need to blog quicker or write better notes.  =O

The other day, I asked where Daddy came from.  Ruby had a ready answer: "from the funny farm" where you "get all funny 'cause the workers are funny."  It alllllll makes sense now!  ;)

Oh, I had a birthday, so am now the ripe 'ole age of 32.  My birthday was on Sabbath, and there was a church social that night.  So, I spent the last few minutes of being 31 playing hide and seek with up to 15-20 kids or so.  ;)  Ruby went around organizing, asking kids to play.  She got a few to play with us, and had me hide first, and then all the kids looked for me.  They all walked past me.  After a while, I figured that, being young children, their attention span had probably been shot and that they'd moved on to something else.  Oh, contraire!!!  Ooops.  ;)  We proceeded to play for a good LONG while - like until the kids left.  Ruby couldn't figure out why more and more kids wanted to play when they intially told her they didn't want to.  I told her it's 'cause we were all having so much fun they decided to join in.  ;)

Earlier in the night, this kid was chasing me.  He was FAST.  Like, I really had to run at times, and he almost caught me a time or two.  He kept saying, how he didn't know how I was so fast.  I told him I'd been running for a long time.  ;)  At one point, he said something about "getting his flash on" or something, and then he really kicked it up into high gear.  Kids are just crack-ups.  Anyhow, later, he was talking smack about how he was going to catch me.  I told him I didn't even know his name.  His name is Jaden.  I told him that my daughter's name was Jadelyn.  I asked how old he was.  6.  SIX.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!  I almost was caught by a SIX YEAR OLD?!?!?!  Wow.  And then I was sore the next day from the running.  Okay.  I really AM getting old.  =O

Then, on Sunday, Tracy, Darb, Andrew, Jonathan, Hannah, Karl, and Linda came over for a bike ride.  We rode the almost 12 miles into South Haven, ate lunch, and then Tracy, Darb, Andrew and I (and Karl, mostly) rode back to Grand Junction.  My tail end is still sore.  And my shins started hurting today.  =O  But it was overall a lovely, and WINDY ride.  And was up to 72 degrees.  In November!  Wee-haw!  ;)  Anyhow, after we got back home, a few of us played kickball.  While I was outside playing, Jadelyn woke up from her nap.  Isaac went in and checked on her, and then Tracy did.  Jadelyn had a poopy diaper.  =O  I haven't changed one of them in a good LONG while.  Well, neither had Tracy.  But she sure loves her "Zadelyn", so she changed it.  Jadelyn informed her that she needed a spanking for pooping in her diaper (which I don't think I've ever said.  Just that she'd need a "consequence".  ;P), but Tracy told her that since she'd pooped when she was sleeping, it was probably okay.  Jadelyn told her, "I'm glad you're here!"  Ha!  =)  Earlier in the day, Jadelyn had told Tracy that we eat sugar "on holidays".  =)  I asked her about it later, as I didn't know she knew the word "holidays", and she said that holidays are "Sabbath".  Oh.  True.  We normally eat dessert on Sabbath.  ;)

Ruby has been sick since 12:05am (or probably earlier, but I was sleeping =O) on Monday morning.  Poor kid.  She last threw up at like 9:30am today.  And spent most of the day laying around and sleeping.  She really perked up after some applesauce tonight.  Hopefully she feels better tomorrow.  And hopefully the rest of us don't get sick.  My stomach felt yucky yesterday some, and now I have a sore throat coming on.  =P  Anyways, yesterday Isaac set up a train track in the living room, where Ruby could watch it.  Today, he was asking her if she wanted to play with him because he "wouldn't be rough".  Alas, she was too ill.  So, he went outside, and worked and worked and scraped and scraped the little tiny dusting of snow we had on the deck until he had a bucketful.  Then he brought it it and held it by the couch so Ruby could play with it.  He knew she'd want to play with it since she couldn't go outside.  Have I mentioned that I love that kid?!?!?!?

Jadelyn needed a little blanket on her head today.  Just in case her baby doll slobbered on her.  Goofball.

At lunch I asked Jadelyn where she came from, and she told me she came from a zoo and a monkey.  Sometimes she sure does act like it!  ;)

Tonight, Isaac said "quick" instead of "kick" and "twain" instead of "sain" all by himself!!!  Go, Buddy!  Though I must admit, I'll really miss "kick".  ;)

At worship tonight, I asked the kids if they ever saw someone and thought, "wow.  That person is really good!" (Because Isaac's pretty white snow he brought in melted and was all dirty and yucky.  And we were talking about how none of us is good - even if we look like it on the outside, but how Jesus will make us white as clean snow.)  Anyways, the "goodest" people the kids could think of are as follows: Ruby - Jadelyn, Isaac - David, Jadelyn - Isaac.  You see, Ruby and I struggle more than most in this family!  =O  Yikes!!!!!

Tonight, Jadelyn prayed, "help me to be good.  But I hit."  Honesty.  Honesty.  No hitting today, though!

And that's about all I can remember!

Just a few...

Ruby calls the elliptical the exermachine.  I think.  Maybe not.  Whoah.  I really have to write down every.single.thing to remember it.  Yikes!  =O  She must've ridden at least half a mile or so on it today.  Loves it.  How is she ever going to gain weight if she won't just sit still and eat a lot of food?!?!?!  =P

David had a, ahem, minor surgical procedure done yesterday, so is supposed to be resting.  Where is he?  At work.  I digress.  =P  Ruby loves being his "nurse".  She covers him up with her blanket and helps him as necessary.  This morning, she put on his socks and shoes.  Awww....;)  Anyhow, before lunch, David was laying back on Isaac's bed watching the trains.  Isaac was laying on top of him.  Awww....;)  Anyhow, when lunch was ready, I went back to get them, and David was sleeping.  Isaac said that David was watching the trains, his eyes got all watery, and then he went to "feeep."
(Don't worry, Shelley, we're working on pronunciation, still.  "L's" and "s's" are our special focus groups.  =P)

I'm forgetting things.  Well, at least that part of me is normal!  ;)

Where Did You Come From, Anyways?

I ask the kids this a lot...just 'cause they're so bloomin' crazy.  "From Jesus!" is often the answer.  They're just silly.  Silly, silly, silly.

Last night, we all went up to Zeeland to take a look at an elliptical that I found on Craislist.  I need to exercise, see?  ;P  Anyways, the people who had the elliptical for sale have boy/girl twins that are just about 1 year younger than Ruby and Isaac (and about a head taller.  Yikes.  =O)  Anyways, these kids were ENERGETIC.  Super.  The sweet little boy was wanting to make friends with Isaac, but "shy" Isaac would have nothing to do with it.  We need to work on those skills.  =P  Anyhow.  At some point, the little girl was telling Ruby that zombies are dead people who walk around.  Ruby's response?  "I know a story about Swami", and he got bit by a crocodile!  Ah.  I was worried how this "zombie" information might go over with my innocent children, but guess I didn't need to worry!  ;)  Gotta love Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories.  =)

After looking at the elliptical, we made a visit to our local Taco Bell for supper.  The kids did amazingly well.  Like they sat.  And ate.  Incredible.  (Though Isaac DID have to take a couple trips around the dining room for some offense that I've since forgotten.)  Vastly different from the last visit to Taco Bell that I remember.  =O  Anyhow, I was thinking how lovely this meal had been and such, and then a lady who works there came over and told the kids that they were the "most well-behaved kids I've seen in here in a long time" and gave them each a toy.  How sweet is that?!?!?!  I don't think people realize how much those little affirmations do for the kids...and their parents.  Now we need to get a thank-you card out!

It was time for the kids to do their checklists this morning, and it is "change-sheets day", so Jadelyn was reminding me that she needed help loosening up her sheet.  Isaac then offered to help her.  Jadelyn told me all excitedly, "Ruuu...Isaac is going to help me!"  Ruby was then pondering why Jadelyn often says "Ruby" before "Isaac" when she's only talking about Isaac.  This is a paraphrased version of what Ruby came up with: "she's only 3.  Her brain's not working real well" yet.  Ha!

The kids had made an absolute disaster of the house today.  Just incredible.  I told them that David was going to be home soon with the elliptical, and I would like to give them each a special ride if they could pick up in time.  Well, in about 10 minutes they had the place whipped into shape.  Wowzers.  When it's this bad, it can take them up to an hour or an hour and a half to get it cleaned up.  Today?  Record-breaking-amazingness.  Isaac told me that if I will give him a ride on the elliptical every day, he will always clean up this fast.  "Or faster", Ruby says.  Anyways, the excitement stayed WAY up and the kids were HYYYYYYPPPEEER at lunch.  Giggling like loons, to the point I was afraid that they'd choke or spit or something.  (Well, Jadelyn DID spit.  But it was on purpose.  Had to get mommy-firm about that.  Gross.)  Anyways, Ruby was trying to drink milk while laughing away.  Somehow she ended up with a few droplets on her nose, which she called me attention to.  "I can feel it", she said, and then, while crossing her eyes, proceeded to tell me she could see it a little, too.  Silly girl. And then, as I had educated the kids about calories and such today, and we had talked about how they burn calories by running all around and laughing, Isaac said, "I'm getting hungrier and hungrier", as he'd been burning through all his calories by laughing all the way through lunch.  Crazy guy.

And with that, I finished my notes.  Yay!!!  ;)

So Much Material, So Few Notes!!! =O

These kids have been absolute SWEEETIES lately.  And have said/done so many funny/cute things I want to remember.  Alas.  I got behind in blogging again, and didn't even write everything down on my notecards.  Why do I always think, "oh, I'll remember that.  No way I'll forget that"?  =P

Well, onward to the notecards!

Isaac came down from the loft one day and told me that Ruby was "so hot and cuddly" she "almost made me go to sleep".  Awww...gotta love them cuddles.  Though I believe Jadelyn was left out of the cuddles since she's not their "twin".  But I didn't write it down, so can't really be sure.  =P

The other week, Jadelyn and Isaac were playing that Jadelyn was supposed to use her "snuffing" nose and find her brother.  So, Isaac darted back and forth across the living room while Jadelyn "snuffed" after him, crawling like a bloodhound, with her nose to the ground.  This went on for quite a while, much to the delight of both silly kids.  At some point, I noticed something on Jadelyn's nose.  Yup.  A big, 'ole rugburn.  Now, I can't say I've ever given myself rugburn while dragging my nose across the carpet before.   But, it DID explain the previously unexplained owies on Isaac's forehead.  For apparently a day or two earlier, he too, was crawling along the carpet.  Only he was dragging his forehead.  These loons!

One night, which I believe was NOT a Friday night, while putting Jadelyn to bed, she was putting me through the questionning wringer.  She always wants to know when Sabbath is, and that is probably where this line of questionning began, but I can't be sure.  =O  Then, she was talking about church, and why do they have to make it dark to show pictures at church?  And why do boys not all have hair?  And why do we have walls?  Then she was praying, but had to pause to ask the name for hangnails.  And then said something about talking long.  And then I must've said something about tomorrow, to which Jadelyn asked, "after Sabbath?"  Yeah, I need to actually blog these things soon after I take my notes, so they'll make more sense.  Ooops.

One morning, Jadelyn was having a real difficult time wanting to get dressed.  She wanted help putting her shirt on, though she hadn't tried to do it herself yet.  I encouraged her to try herself first.  Then, my sweet little fella came over, took Jadelyn's shirt, and proceeded it to put it on himself, while talking her through the process.  I THINK she tried again, but was having a hard time, so he again put it on himself.  Eventually, he helped her get it on herself.  That boy is such a sweetie!!!!!

One morning, I believe it was as we were waving goodbye to David, I had 3 little monkeys who kept deadpanning the sound, "ah ah ooooo, ah ah oooo".  Oh, boy.

Isaac was working on coloring when he asked, "amn't me an artist?"  And yes, Isaac, you are.  ;)

I must've asked something of the kids, when Ruby answered calmly, "just a minute.  We're in a fight right now."  Ha!

We enjoyed a day at the Outdoor Discover Center with Kindra and her cutie pies, Willow and Eden, a few weeks ago.  We got to see lots of big birds, and while we were there, they had to get a bald eagle out and change the bandage on his toe, which they had previously amputated.  One day, Jadelyn asked me, "do birds cry?"  Then she thought maybe birds just get mad 'cause they don't like to get band-aids.  True enough...that bald eagle sure didn't look happy!!!  =O

Jadelyn was looking into my eyes where she saw a reflection of herself.  Then, she wanted to see her foot, so up to my face went her foot.  Oh, to truly understand her though processes!  She just cracks me up.

One day, I was reminding Ruby to keep her hands to herself.  Ruby responded that she ALWAYS keeps her hands to herself, as they are always on her body "unless I break a finger" [off], I presume.  Lawyer child.

At supper one night, Ruby informed me that she was so full that her belly was about to pop open.  She then proceeded to tell me what she'd eaten: part of a biscuit, a few sunflower seeds, 1 cracker, a bowl of applesauce, water, 1 little slice of a carrot, 1 piece of broccoli, 1 leaf of spinach, and 1 piece of lettuce.  Sound filling?  Good grief.  No WONDER this child is a beanpole!!!!

I was singing "Jesus loves the little children" with Jadelyn, when suddenly she began yelling, "Black!  White!"  It was actually sounding quite nice, almost like a duet...until she continued her yelling, "Purple!  Blue!"  Somehow I don't think she has the gist of that song yet.  =O

2 or 3 lunchtimes in a row, Jadelyn has done what I would refer to as "cracker karate".  She's eating along, when she stops, lays a cracker down on the table, and calmly presses her forehead into it, in what I assume is an attempt to break it.  Then, she will either continue to karate chop another cracker, or move back on to eating.  Cracks me up.  But I can't ask her about it, or I would have THREE cracker karate choppers, and loads of giggles (and crumbs) instead of kids filling their bellies.  That child.

We were riding around the lake on our bikes the other day - Jadelyn in the seat on my bike, and Ruby and Isaac riding the tag-a-long behind David's bike.  I tend to be way in front.  Probably because my bike coasts really well, and I don't have the swaying motion from the tag-a-long wearing me out.  Or MAYBE it's because of my superior leg muscles.  Ha.  ;)  Anyways, the three muskateers who were behind me came up with a diabolical plan to pass me up.  Silently they approached me...but once they got too close, the giggles could be contained no longer.  Nothing like giggling kiddos passing me up!  =)

Ruby was playing with some stuffed animals in the cat carrier the other day.  Actually, I think all 3 had turns at it, but this was her turn.  Well, she was telling me the names of her cats, when she told me that one of them was named "dress-up cat".  I asked her about it.  Oh, she told me, it's because the cat "likes to sneak around at night and dress up in my clothes."  Perfectly normal, right?  ;)

Jadelyn was passing out washcloths for a meal, when she decided to give the coveted blue one to Isaac.  "That's very nice", Ruby told her, "that's called 'generous'".

Jadelyn was eating a banana muffin at lunch, when she told me that it was "very yummy for my face, 'cause it doesn't hurt it."  Ha!

Ruby and I were doing math during lunch yesterday.  I asked Ruby what must've been a deeply distressing question.  (2+7, perhaps?)  Anyways, Ruby replied, "let me think, I'm getting my brain ready."  Oh!  =)

David said that Jadelyn asked him the other day about his haircut.  He told her that Mommy cuts his hair.  No, she said, pointing to his bald spots on his forehead, who cuts this part?  HA!!!  =)

I was laying on the couchon Sabbath, and Jadelyn decided that I was a "whale". She went and told David, "there’s a whale on the couch". David reminded her to be careful what she says. ;) Then, she came back to get eaten by the whale, as she was Jonah. When I caught her, I started kissing her, when suddenly she informed me that whales don’t kiss. Well, this whale does! =O

Yesterday, Jadelyn was on the couch "feeling sick" as she often dramatically is lately, and asked me to come cuddle her. Of course, I obliged. Never can pass up a good opportunity to cuddle, you know! ;) Anyways, suddenly Jadelyn was like, "oh, I have something in my ear!" I was about to ask her if it was earwax, when she pronounced, all matter-of-fact, "oh. It’s a pomegranate seed." Yeah, happens all the time. ;) (And no, I saw no pomegranate seed come out of her ear. But we did have a talk about never putting something in your ear. Or up your nose. As she did the other day. =P)

Ruby and Isaac were planning a big surprise for lunch on Sunday - eating lunch in the basement.  See, we all take turns riding our bikes by the window of the play kitchen down there, but this time, Ruby was going to hand out REAL food.  Jadelyn and Daddy were the intended "surpriseeeees".   Ruby figured that they should surprise Jadelyn first, because Daddy’s older, and "I assume" he’s had more fun things in his life than Jadelyn has. Let me tell you, this surprise was Ruby’s baby, and she put a LOT of time into thinking about/planning for it! =)  Jadelyn was actually pretty nonchalant about it all, but luckily David delivered a big adieu about it all.  ;)

Jadelyn was up in the loft yesterday, asking me to help her put her socks on. While I was doing so, she was plugging her nose, and saying that it stunk from the poop. "What poop?" I asked. The goose poop out in the yard, she said. Sensitive nose? ;)

And with that, I come to the end of my notes and memories.  Must make more "yummy for my face" muffins!  ;)

And Still more Kid Stories...

Well, I'm back again.  With more memories to write down to enjoy in my old age.  ;)

I recently found out that Isaac really likes granola.  Really, REALLY likes it.  So much so that he recently informed me that if I made granola more often he won't "beg for candy".  Guess what's on my list of things to do tomorrow?  ;)

Isaac has perpetually dirty fingernails.  He just attracts dirt.  David thought he had a fungal problem or something 'cause they were always dirty.  Ha.  Nopers.  Just special dirt-attracting fingernails.  Well, the other week, Isaac found a way to clean 'em out.  I caught him carefully cleaning his fingernails on the doorknob.  Yup.  The doorknob to his bedroom.  You see, the keyhole has been pulled out some, and leaves a pointy place...apparently just right for cleaning fingernails.  ;)  So, if you come to our house, you might want to use hand sanitizer after using doorknobs.  (Or "hanitizer" as Isaac called it the other day.  ;D)

Isaac recently put on his helmet, and then covered it with the hood from his bathtowel and pronounced himself "superman".  I should've gotten a picture, but alas, I didn't.  Trust me, it was cute.

Last week, Ruby woke up from her nap but didn't come out of her bedroom for a while.  When asked why, she said that Jadelyn had tricked her with all her door openings....she thought that Jadelyn had come out of her room and I had put her back to bed, meaning that naptime wasn't over.  What REALLY happened was Jadelyn came out of her room, and decided to go "camping" or something, and back into her room she went.  Ha!

While outside this past week, Ruby was a "doctor".  She drew blood from Jadelyn, took some x-rays of Jadelyn, and well, that's all I know about.  But they started to fight 'cause Ruby wanted to keep on drawing blood by poking Jadelyn with some leaf or something, I think.  David sent Ruby around the house 3 times to cool off and think.  Soon after she left, Jadelyn, who had been screaming her head off shortly before, asked, "where's the doctor?"  Ai yai yai.  Too bad she can't remember that she LIKES Ruby when Ruby is around, 'eh?  =P

The other night as I was putting Jadelyn to bed, I was making chicken-like sounds.  And no, I don't remember why.  It's not exactly "the norm" around these parts, for sure.  Probably Jadelyn had made the sound and I copied it.  See me try to rationalize why I "bock-bock" while putting my children to bed?  ;O  Oh, my.  Anyways, Jadelyn wanted to know what I sounded like.  I told her I sounded like a chicken.  To which she replied, that I did "look kinda like a chicken" or something.  I've been told I look like several things before, but now I'll have to add "chicken" to list.  And I'm not so sure that's complimentary.  Jadelyn, Jadelyn!!!

One night this week, all 3 kids wore Jadelyn's jammies to bed.  Ruby had to unzip the zipper of hers a bit, 'cause it was choking her.  Crazy loons.

Isaac and Jadelyn sat on a "kid couch" (aka part of the couch with the cushions removed so the kids can reach the floor while sitting) for the longest time the other day, singing their head off.  Just random words that came to their heads.  The part I videoed, of course, was not the best part.  Just lots of "yes's".  Other parts included singing about Jesus and random things as they flipped through whatever book they were looking at.  Later all 3 kids just sat around looking at books for the longest time.  Then, later in the day, they spent an hour and a half or so in one stretch, and another hour or so in another stretch playing with the play food.  2 would eat or drink, and the other one would be the helper and put more food and water into their dishes.  Sounds boring...but to my kids, it was quite the thrill....we may need to get out more.  I don't know, I rather enjoyed the peace.  ;)

At lunch the other day, we were talking about alcohol (no, I don't know how it came up...=P), and how it's not best for you, but we still love people who do drink.  Out of the blue Ruby bursts in something like, "you know Mr. John who's married to Aunt Faye?  HE doesn't eat LETTUCE on his haystacks.  But you know who loves him anyways?"  "Aunt Faye?", I guessed.  "No.  Aunt Nancy".  I asked how she knew that, and was told, "because I heard her say so."  And that was the end of the conversation.  Alcohol, lettuce, you know...same difference.  ;P

As I was heading off to take a shower the other day, Ruby called to me from her bedroom, "have a nice shower.........don't drown!"  =)

Jadelyn's nighttime prayer last night: (probably not word-for-word, but you know....it's what I have written down on my trusty card) "Thank you for my mouth.  It hurts very much.  Please bless it.  Amen.  [giggle]"  Kid wouldn't stay still in Sabbath school, and fell out and cracked her mouth on the chair next to her.  Little bloody, but not as bad as I feared!  Do you think it helped her sit still the rest of Sabbath School?  No, siree!!!!

Isaac and Ruby wanted to switch beds for naptime yesterday.  So they did.  Isaac wanted to stay switched for bed last night.  Ruby didn't want to, but said Isaac could sleep in her bed with her.  Um, no.  Sleep is important.  =P  Anyways, she finally decided they could switch.  When I was getting them tucked in last night, Isaac said to Ruby something like, "I'd rather sleep in that bed, but I'm giving you grace."  Ha!  They're still switched.  Last I heard, they were going to stay switched until my birthday or something.  Ruby also gave her stuffed salmon to Isaac.  He was pretty happy.  =)

Today, we futilely worked on clearning our backyard of leaves.  As we raked, more and more fell down, but you know...good exercise.  ;)  The kids were playing with David's fishing lures (safety first, you know!  =O) at the picnic table very nicely.  It was clear that they were running some kind of store or restaurant, as they were talking about what days they were open.  I asked them what kind of store they had.  A "dead fish store", I was told.  Oh.  See, at this store, you could take home a fish to eat, eat it, bring back a few "seeds" and they would get lots more real fish.  I told them fish don't grow from seeds, and Ruby quickly told me they were just pretending.  Must admit, I've never heard of a "dead fish store" before, and now I know why....

Jadelyn and I were talking today about how she is so big.  But, she told me, I can still hold her.  I asked her if I could still hold her when she was 20.  No, she told me as she guestured with both hands to the ceiling, because she will keep "growing and growing right up to the wall."

Ruby and Isaac apparently tell each other that they are going potty in the middle of the night.  I'm not sure why.  Ruby was all upset the other day, because she was tired, because Isaac had woken her up to tell her that he was going potty.  Well, Ruby told Isaac the other night, because she was afraid the electricity would go off.  Not sure why that would matter so much since I think she keeps the light off in the bathroom, but whatever.  ;P  Isaac told her she could just call for him, and he would come help her.  Then, he came in and turned the water on for her, 'cause she doesn't know how to do it herself, or something.  That Isaac is sometimes just the SWEETEST BOY I've ever KNOWN!!!!!  Awww....I love that they love each other, and love it even more when they REMEMBER that little fact!

Today we went for a 12 mile or so bike ride.  6 miles out, supper at Subway, 6 miles back.  Just a little ways out, we ran into trouble with our Adams tandem trail-a-long.  It slipped down off the tube that goes around my seat post.  David needed an allen-wrench to fix it, and though he had thought he should bring one along, he didn't.  So while he rode away to find someone at home who would let him borrow one, the kids and I waited on the trail.  First person along was a jogger with his dog, who asked if we wanted him to stay with us until David came back.  I told him we were okay.  Shortly after that, a couple on bikes rode by.  Soon after, they circled around and came back.  And who should it be, but Mr. and Mrs. Susens!  Mr. Susens worked at the academy when I was there, and I graduated with his daughter, Margie!  What a small world.  We had a nice time catching up, and David came back soon.  Funny how small the world is!  =)  On the way back from Subway, Ruby and Isaac were riding on the tag-a-long giggling their silly heads off, and not pedaling much.  Probably better than the pedaling and fighting they do lots of the time, though.  ;)  Twas a lovely ride.  I sure enjoy getting to go for a "real" bikeride now and then!

Well, that was long.  Adios!
