Tidbits

The other day, Jadelyn lost the priviledge of having a before-nap story because she had been hitting Isaac earlier.  She was heartbroken.  But not for long, because Isaac, the recipient of her hitting, decided he would read to her since I wasn't going to.  He read over 40 pages to her in a Dick and Jane book while I was reading with/to Ruby.  Sweet, forgiving boy.

I was cutting Jadelyn's fingernails the other day.  Or rather, I was GOING to cut them, but she had chewed them back so bad that there was nothing to cut.  So, I moved on to her toenails.  Which were shorter than I expected.  Jokingly, I asked her if she had been chewing them, too.  "No", she informed me,  "I just rip 'em off and eat 'em."  (not ver batim).  Gross, Lynnie.  Just gross.

Today in swimming class, Ruby was learning to roll from her back to her belly (she learned the opposite yesterday), Isaac was working on rolling from his belly to his back (with his 3rd teacher in two weeks - this guy says he'll have Isaac for the rest of the time), and Jadelyn swam by herself further than yesterday, jumped off the side of the pool, and jumped off the diving board for the first time!  I was so proud!!!  (And shocked that she didn't back down.  She's been saying she was going to jump off the diving board for a LONG time...;D)

Isaac Loves His "Giggles"

I read recently that if you laugh at least 20 minutes a day, your memory improves.  Isaac has a smokin' memory and kicks my tail at the Penguin Matching Game.  Ruby does, too.  I'm old.  And apparently don't laugh enough.  Well, my sneaky Isaac has a plan to improve his memory even more.  At naptime today, Isaac asked me to tickle him after nap so his memory would improve even more.  Glad he's a thinker!

More Jadelynisms

Today, Jadelyn was "reading" a book.  I overheard her "reading" about a cow and it's "cowling".  =)

The kids had their first swimming lesson today.  After swimming class, Jadelyn informed us that her teacher was still a "kid" and that she is a "Mormon".  I can guess how she found out those things.  She asks lots of questions.  Sometimes inappropriate (and embarrassing to Mommy) ones.  Jadelyn wants to know if everybody is a "Seventh-day Adventist" and if they "love Jesus."  Sooooo....not sure what else their conversation consisted of, but hopefully Jadelyn was kind.  =P

Just now, as I was finally putting those loons down for their nap, Jadelyn had an interesting prayer.  For, you see, in the last few days, the girl's room has taken on an interesting (to put it nicely) musty smell.  We haven't found the culprit yet.  But it does not smell very fresh in there.  Anyhow, Jadelyn  was praying that their room would stop stinking and then was reflecting on the fact that she wouldn't have to smell it after we moved again because we're "moving monsters".  Oh, boy.  =P

Things You Just Don't Expect To See....

Today, I was working in the laundry room, as I have been pretty much all week, trying to get that bad boy remodeled.  As I was painting, I heard Isaac and Ruby having a conversation right outside the door, where they were playing on the washer and dryer, which have been banned to the out-of-doors since laundry room renovation began.  Anyways, Isaac was calmly asking for help, and Ruby was saying he didn't need help.  It continued on and on, but Isaac stayed calm, so I figured all was well.  After a while, though, I thought perhaps I should check in to the situation a bit.  I opened the door, and here was the sight that awaited me:

Because isn't that what would be normal?  I mean doesn't EVERYONE get their head stuck between the washer and dryer?  That kid.  Gotta love him.

(Disclaimer, above picture is a reinactment, for by the time I got the camera, he had managed to free himself.  Crazy kid.)

Swimming....

The city pool is open, and I've been twice already!  Kids are FREE, and adults are only $2.00, so I'm pretty happy.  ;)

The other night, we went as a family (previously I'd only taken Ruby on our "date"), and it was lots of fun.  Ruby and Isaac both braved the diving board - over and over and over and over.  That was a first for both of them.  They have no fear of being underwater which raises my anxiety level significantly since they can't swim.  (Swimming lessons start next week, though!)  Lifejackets are my friend.  Jadelyn informed me a couple times that she was going to jump off the diving board.  I told her that she needed to prove to me that she could jump off the side of the pool first, which she started to do once, followed quickly by a "nevermind".  ;)  All three kids worked with me on their swimming without their lifejackets on.  Ruby is learning to float on her back for a second or two, and was going under the water to jump off the bottom (that freaked me out).  Isaac became a back floating PRO all the sudden, and giggled and thrashed like a madman when we worked on swimming on his stomach.  He was at an angle that kept his head like a foot above the water and somehow he was still splashing with his feet.  If he giggles that hard during swimming lessons I'm not sure what his instructors will do with him!  Crazy kid.  Jadelyn didn't want to float on her back.  She liked doing a gymnastic move where she straightened her arms and pushed off my hands so she was way up in the air.

The water was 85 degrees, and I think the air was warmer, so I'm not sure how we were all so cold.  Well, Jadelyn didn't seem to affected.  Isaac went and laid down wrapped up in his towel for a while, shaking like crazy.  Ruby went and joined him after a while, but by then Isaac was ready to resume swimming.  Ruby wrapped up in her towel and was shaking so bad, so before Isaac left to come back to the pool he covered her up with his towel too.  It was the sweetest.

Another "sweetest" story was when Isaac was crying about having lost his blue shoes (croc thingys) until Friday because he didn't put them away (well, the crying wasn't the sweet part), and once Jadelyn found out what was wrong, she promised him that she'd buy him a new pair with her own money.  She wanted to go to the store before we went swimming and buy him some.  She can be so sweet, but yet she can provoke SO WELL!!!  =P

Oh, those kids.

Breakfast Conversations....

This morning, we had a late breakfast, so David had already left for work and I was left to fend with 3 lunatics.  As breakfast progressed, so did a conversational topic that I wished had not entered our pleasant breakfast meal.  The kids started talking about how Isaac's bunny (killed by Hickory a few weeks ago) had probably turned to dirt.  I said it may have started to, but probably wasn't completely there yet, but was probably further along than would have been the case in a different climate.  Then Isaac was saying about how they should have given his bunny to the science class so they could study it.  (Mind you, this child cried for 30 minutes when he found out his bunny had died...how quickly he gets over his grief.  =P)  Then, Jadelyn, I believe, was saying how we should dig it up and check it out.  Now, I was just trying to enjoy a pleasant breakfast meal with these lunatics, and was getting grossed out.  So, I said, (and they probably knew what I was going to say before I said it 'cause I've said it before), "okay, lets talk about something different" or something to that effect.  And all three burst out laughing their heads off like I'd said the funniest thing ever.  I never know what humor will tickle them.  Here's to more pleasant meal conversations in the future....

Random Jadelyn.....

Last night, Jadelyn came out of her room after being tucked in to bed to inform me that her leg was "still stinging" from what I presume is a VERY SLIGHT sunburn.  Child has been trying to find a reason to come out of her room a LOT lately.  So, I told her that she is NOT to come out of her room unless she needs to go potty.  "Or if my foot gets cut off" she added.  Right.
